‘정장선 시장님, 우리 미군 확진자가 줄었습니다’

윌러드 M. 빌러슨 미8군 사령관은 정장선 평택시장에게 주한미군의 코로나19 확진자 감소세를 설명하고 “설 연휴 및 오미크론 변이 영향에 대비, 방역대책을 지속해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

평택지역내 주한미군 확진자는 1월 중순 하루에 500명이 나올 정도로 급증했으나, 현재는 하루 40명 안팎으로 크게 감소한 상태다.

확진자는 감소세를 보이지만 미군의 방역대책은 지속될 전망이다.

빌러슨 사령관은 “국내 확진자가 증가하는 상황에서 설 명절을 앞둬 미군 장병들에게 외출자제 지시를 내렸다”고 말했다.

미군부대내 한국인 직원과 관련해서도 “재택근무를 활성화하고 설 연휴 이후 신속항원검사를 받게 하는 등 코로나19 확산에 대비하겠다”고 설명했다.

이에 정장선 시장은 “미군측의 엄격한 코로나19 관리로 확진자가 크게 줄어 기쁘다” 며 “미8군의 적극적인 협조에 감사드린다”고 화답했다.
