평택시자원봉사센터(이하 센터·센터장 방미옥)는 5월20일 캠프 험프리스(Camp Humphreys)에서 ‘릴레이프로젝트 마음을 잇다, 타일벽화 꽃이 피었습니다’를 주제로 1통신 여단과 타일채색 재능기부 봉사활동을 가졌다.

이는 센터가 기획한 2022년 ‘릴레이 프로젝트 타일벽화’ 활동으로 미군, 기업, 자원봉사자들과 함께 코로나19 장기화로 지친 심신을 달래며 개인이 완성된 타일을 하나하나 모아 수거한 뒤 사회복지시설 환경개선 및 마을경관과 필요한 곳에 재능기부로 화합을 도모하기 위한 것이다.

이날 센터 소속 박남지 강사가 재능기부로 영어 통역을 맡아 3시간 정도 진행됐다.

캠프 험프리스 1통신 여단 통역을 맡은 홍승욱 병장은 “고향을 떠나 타지 생활에 외로움을 많이 느끼는 미군 병사들과 의미있는 활동을 위해 센터에 문의하게 됐다. 코로나19 팬데믹으로 지친 감성을 회복하고 뜻깊은 봉사활동에 참여해 군복무에서 기억에 남을 소중한 활동이었다”고 소감을 전했다.

이에 방미옥 센터장은 “현재 도시재생지역인 신장2동 파출소에 기부돼 미군봉사단과 시민들이 참여하는 마을경관조성에 의미를 더할 것이다”고 밝혔다.

한편 센터는 지역특색을 살려 주한미군의 교류를 점진적으로 확대, 낙후된 지역과 시설에 타일벽화 재능기부활동을 지속적으로 전개할 계획이다.

In response, Bang Mi-ok, head of the center, said, "It will be donated to the police box in Xinjiang 2-dong, which is currently an urban regeneration area, adding meaning to the creation of the village landscape involving U.S. military volunteers and citizens."

Meanwhile, the center plans to gradually expand the exchange of U.S. troops stationed in Korea, taking advantage of regional characteristics, and continue to donate tile mural talent to underdeveloped areas and facilities.
